BGA & Commerce & Investment Dept. Punjab hold Basmati Workshops
BGA with the cooperation and support of the Commerce and Investment Department, Government of Punjab is holding workshops for the capacity building of Basmati Rice trade in six major markets of Basmati. The first workshop was held on the 17th of March 2009 at Kamokey, Distt. Gujranwala and the second was held on the 28th of March at Sheikhupura. It is further planned to hold the third at Daska, Distt. Sialkot on 8th April. Workshops will also be held at Gujranwala, Hafizabad and Muridkey. The arrangements are in progress and dates shall soon be announced.
Speakers at the workshops include representatives of Commerce and
Investment Department, Punjab, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (SMEDA),
a Basmati exporter and the banking sector. Officials of State Bank of Pakistan, Punjab Agriculture Department, Punjab Agriculture Marketing Deptt. and BGA's President.
The workshops are fully represented by members of the Basmati trading/milling community. Keen interest in working for sustainable solutions is shown by the participants, the Question and Answer session at the end of each workshop brings out the key issues being faced. The participants acknowledge the efforts of BGA, C&I, TDAP and SMEDA.
